Griflet.com's newest feature, the Page Highlighter, will automatically search through a webpage or paragraph upon paragraph of the text of your choice, dutifully coloring the words you choose to make your day a little bit brighter. In brief, it highlights the word(s) for which you tell it to search.

Pictures from my March trip to Hawaii are now available for your viewing pleasure in the Trips section.

More of my writings have been posted, but with them comes the warning that many do not reflect personal experience. Nonetheless, I believe that you will find them enjoyable.

Although you're welcome to bookmark any of the pages here, I'm not sure I would suggest it. I change my file structure often and the only address that is static is the one for this page. Instead, I'd bookmark this page and use it to get to the page you're looking for.

About the Designer

< a fake interview >
MysteryUser: So, where are you from?
Kate2587: I'm in the Eugene area of Oregon.
MysteryUser: How long have you lived there?
Kate2587: For about two years now... I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin.
MysteryUser: That must have been interesting.
Kate2587: Definitely.
MysteryUser: So what do you like to do these days?
Kate2587: My interest in languages has really flourished. I reluctantly took a first-year Spanish course in my freshman year of high school, but since then I've really taken a shining to it. In fact, last summer I went to Spain for a month to learn more of the language.
MysteryUser: Have you ever considered any other languages?
Kate2587: I also started learning German in my freshman year through a German woman we had staying at our house for a month. That jump-started my vocabulary and I learned more when I went to a two-week German course that summer. I'm not fluent yet, but I hope to be at some point. At the moment, I'm trying to learn French and to aumentar that process, I plan on going to France for a month next summer. In the future, I hope to learn as many languages as possible, including (but not limited to!) Arabic, Icelandic, Romanian, and Russian because they sound so neat.
MysteryUser: Oh my. How are you going to do that?
Kate2587: I'd love to live in Europe but change locations (countries) every two to three years, giving me just enough time to study the next language while learning the current one.
MysteryUser: Ambitious.
Kate2587: Of course.
MysteryUser: Do you have any other passions in life?
Kate2587: Well... that's a very extensive subject. Full research in that area could take up to three years. To list a few, though, would be to say computers, music ("oldies," country, the good stuff in Spanish, and some of the newer junk), languages (as you've seen), mathematics, science (namely physics and molecular biology), travel and cultures, perfectionism, chatting, computer programming, movies, and just generally being with friends.
MysteryUser: A very... scholarly person.
Kate2587: As suits me.
MysteryUser: You sound like you're in the know with computers. Is that so?
Kate2587: Certainly. I was raised using the Macintosh operating system, one which currently resides in the form of OSX on our G4. In October of 2000, I branched out to Windows, an operating system which has proven very problematic but useful for the same reason. Programs are generally easier to come by and thus more finely tuned and advanced. It pains me at times to say that I belong to the Windows followers, but at the same time it appears to be the best for what I'd like to accomplish. I really ought to try Linux... (Why haven't I?)
MysteryUser: You mentioned something about computer programming. Is that a topic on which you are currently focusing?
Kate2587: Yes... My skills are still far behind those of many programmers, but they shall advance in the coming years. I currently feel proficient enough at HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and PHP. I'm slowly learning (due to a lack of time) Java and C/C++ (I'm dabbling into both at the same time -- perhaps not the best idea).
MysteryUser: Do you think you'll continue to develop this interest?
Kate2587: My goal is to one day become employed for these skills, although my fear is that I will become bored after a matter of years. The perfect job still eludes me...
MysteryUser: Well, it's been interesting talking to you today.
Kate2587: Thank you for your time. Hopefully I'll see you around.
MysteryUser: Goodbye.
Kate2587: Hasta pronto. Tschüss. See ya' soon.

< family >
As for my family, I am the oldest child; I have one younger brother named Matt. My parents are still happily married and enjoying their years together.

Our pets include two guinea pigs, Shadow and Phyrnne (pronounced like the word "fern"), and one dog, Sheba.
